"Central Park" unquilted top Cindy Grisdela 2011

“Central Park” is Day 19 of the project. I’d like to do a series of these, using similar improvisationally pieced central blocks and different colored backgrounds and stripes. They would look great hanging in a grouping, either horizontally or vertically.

I think this is the first one of these improv blocks that didn’t end up with a house shape in it! But the neighborhood wouldn’t be complete without a park, right?

I’ll definitely quilt different motifs in the open spaces–maybe some stylized flower shapes, some pebbles and some brickwork.

If you’re new to the project, I challenged myself to create one art quilt a day for the month of March. Each piece is 16″x20,” uses only solid fabrics, and is entirely pieced by machine, not fused. I’ll choose the best of them, quilt them and mount them on stretcher bars, and show them in an exhibit later this year. I’m posting nearly every day on my progress, so check back often!

I am so happy I read Jill’s blog today about your blog or I wouldn’t have known about your 30 day project! These little quilts are wonderful! I’m glad to see our “Houses” themed joint exhibit is starting to evolve. I better get cracking!

Thanks Jennifer! I’m having fun with it–hopefully will get some pieces that will work for our show.

I love the colors in this one. The purple background really shows off the block inside. You are over half way there now. Proud of you. Look forward to seeing the next one. MOM
