"Lavender Garden" 2010 Cindy Grisdela 28x46

Lavender Garden has gone to a new home! It was purchased by a collector of contemporary art who said it reminded her of the lavender fields in Provence.

Many of my readers will remember that about 18 months ago I embarked on a new direction with my work–using solid colors rather than patterned fabrics and emphasizing the texture created by the stitching lines. You can see the stylized garden in the detail show below.

This purchase was all the more exciting because it was completely unexpected–the new owner saw the work on my website and contacted me about it.

It’s always a risk to do something different, but I’ve been pleased with the response I’ve gotten, both from previous collectors and from people who’ve never seen my work before. And I’m excited every day to get into the studio and create something new.

I’m in the studio this week working on creating new work for the Craftboston Spring show March 23-25, so check back next week. And if you’re in the Boston area, that weekend, I’d love to have you stop by my booth!
