Artful Improv Special Exhibit at Houston This Fall!
I’m excited to announce that I’m going to have a special exhibit at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this fall featuring 16 quilts from my new book, Artful Improv: Explore Color Recipes, Building Blocks & Freemotion Stitching!
The brochure for the Festival just came out and you can see my Artful Improv Exhibit listed about midway down on the left side.
I spent days and days recently sewing on sleeves and labels and packing all the quilts up to ship to Houston. I haven’t sent my quilts to a quilt show in a long time, and not all of them had the regulation size 4″ sleeve that is necessary to hang them on the display system Houston uses.
And none of them had the quilt label sewn on the back, since I prefer to stitch my signature directly into the front of each of my pieces.
But it was fun to revisit some of the quilts for the book, since most of them had been at C&T Publishing for photography for quite a while. And since the quilts are going to be away until November, it’s good to have all my information on each one.
I don’t want to spoil the surprise by showing the quilts from the exhibit, but you can see details in the signature quilt at left and the quilt in the feature photo!
The Festival runs from Thursday, November 3 through Sunday, November 6 this year, with a preview night on Wednesday November 2. I plan to be there for the whole time talking to people about the book and the quilts, and I’m really looking forward to it! Hours are 10-7 Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. The preview night is 7-10 for members of the International Quilt Association and class enrollees.
My hope is that the book will debut at the Festival too–stay tuned for more information as I get it!
Mark your calendars for these upcoming shows in 2016:
