Scarf Inspired Blocks 2014 Cindy Grisdela

I’m working on some new small pieces to exhibit at the Craftboston Spring show coming up the weekend after next, April 4-6. These are just the quilt tops–I’ll add stitching to them for texture and mount them on painted black canvas for the show so they’ll be 8″x 8″ square.

I really like the colors–they seem so fresh and springlike. Not that we are there yet–it’s below freezing here today and the weatherman is calling for snow tomorrow! Never mind–spring will be here soon, right?

I realized this morning when I went to put on a scarf because it was cold that I must

have subconsciously been inspired by the scarf I just finished knitting. Although the colors aren’t exactly the same since the scarf reads as more pink than red, the scarf does have a similar fresh feeling to it. At least it does to me.

My plan is to have a grouping of these small pieces in complementary color ways. So these two are red and green, the next two will be purple and yellow, and the third two will be blue and orange. They could hang separately, in small groups, or in one large grouping. Each one will have a different improvisational central block based on the color opposite the color wheel from the background color.

The Craftboston show is being held in a new space this year–the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, located at 539 Tremont St in Boston. Hours are Friday, April 4 10 AM – 7 PM, Saturday April 5 10 AM – 6 PM and Sunday April 6 11 AM – 5 PM. I’ll be in Booth 413 and I’d love to see you there!
