Lime Stacked Boxes 2014 Cindy Grisdela

Lime Stacked Boxes 2014 Cindy Grisdela

The Northern Virginia Fine Art Festival is just one week away and I’m busy getting ready!

The show will be held outdoors at the Reston Town Center in Reston, VA Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. Hours are 5 – 8PM Friday, 10 AM – 8 PM Saturday, and 10 AM – 5 PM Sunday.

There will be over 200 artists in a variety of media–from painting to photography, pottery to jewelry, sculpture to mixed media, and of course, fiber art. It’s sure to be a fun weekend, and I’m looking forward to it, not least because it’s in my own backyard so I don’t have to travel far this time.

At left is Lime Stacked Boxes, one of my newest pieces for the show. The piece is mounted on artist’s canvas that I’ve painted black, so you see just a hint of the canvas around the edges. It measures 10″ w x 20″ h x 1.5″ d and has a wire on the back for easy hanging on the wall. Wouldn’t it be great for a narrow space? There’s some really interesting texture on this one–if you right click on the image you can see it better. Swirls in the center, fans on the right and shells and triangles on the left.

I’m incapable of creating neatly, so I thought I would share a photo of my workspace earlier this week. As

I get into the process and the ideas start flowing, so does the fabric! I’m always reluctant to put the colors away because you never know, one of them might be perfect to add a spark of life to the next composition.

As you can see in the foreground, I’m working on several small improvisational designs to have a new collection of small pieces for the Reston show. Come see me next weekend and see what they’ve turned into! I’ll be in Booth 223 on Market Street.
